Hunt Valley Ultimate Frisbee
During the spring & summer (from daylight savings time to daylight
savings time) there is a weekly pickup game of Ultimate Frisbee
in Hunt Valley.
Currently games are played each Tuesday, starting at 6pm and played
until dark. Players arriving later may join an active game.
The games are open to everyone of all skill levels. Just show up
on the fields across from the Oregon Grill on Shawan Rd., with a
white and dark colored shirts. (Bring water or a sports drink is
a good idea as well.)
Each place tends to have it's own set of rules for Ultimate Frisbee.
The games in Hunt Valley have a relaxed set of rules which are close,
but not exactly the same as "league rules". They are as following:
- No contact (pushing, shoving, etc...)
- No running with the frisbee.
- Once the frisbee touches the ground or travels out of bounds, the
other team obtains possession.
- A goal is scored when the frisbee is caught within the goal box.
- If a hand or arm is hit while throwing a frisbee, it's
considered a foul and position of the disc switches to the other team.
-
The non-frisbee holding team may count down the other team's
player holding the frisbee. This is done by only one person
standing disc's length (roughly 3 feet) away from the player and
counting, "One one-thousand, two one-thousand, etc..." Once 7
has been reached, the frisbee is dropped and position switches
to the other team.
-
If more than one player covers an offensive player then neither
defensive player may count down.
- When the frisbee is "pulled" (i.e., the equivalent of a football
"kick off"), the puller first states the score and throws. If the
receiving team drops the toss, they still obtain first position.
- A game is played to 10 points; one point per goal.
